Yes, absolutely. This is one of the common services that fall under companion care in Toronto and can be used for medical appointments, social outings and anything else within the community.Â
Costs will vary according to the level of care required and the specific services your elderly loved one needs.
Hourly rates for companion caregivers range from $25 to $35. By comparison, companions on the MF Homecare app stay within the $26 to $28 per hour range.
If you require more of a full-day service, rates can be anywhere from $150 to $250 per day. Weekly services are also available and typically range from $1,000 to $1,500 per week.
And if your family member needs a full-time live-in companion, the prices usually start around $3,000 and can go up to $6,000+ per month.
There is an opportunity for families to receive partial coverage for companion care services in the Province of Ontario. Government programs that may be able to help include Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), Home and Community Care Support Services (formerly known as LHINs) and the Veterans Independence Program (VIP). Ontario also offers a Canada Caregiver Credit to help offset the costs.Â
On the private side, there is long-term care insurance and employee benefits to explore.
